Cadiz, nature and heritage
Cadiz province is one of the most biodiverse provinces in mainland Spain. Habitats range from dense forest reminiscent of cloud forest to Mediterranean forest, dune systems, and more. Moreover, you will be seduced with views of magical landscapes in Cadiz and the Strait of Gibraltar. Cadiz has over a third of its surface protected, while its climate and sunlight hours are similar to the Canary Islands.
Los Alcornocales Natural Park is located in the province of Cádiz and comprises a large area with a south-north orientation between the coastal area of Tarifa to the inland mountain ranges, in the municipalities of Cortes de la Frontera, Ubrique, and El Bosque. The wildlife wealth of the park is also largely determined by its geographical position. Its position at the southernmost tip of Europe makes it an obligatory periodic passage, to and from Africa, of millions of migratory birds that converge in this area, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.
Los Alcornocales Natural Park and El Estrecho Natural Park have trails through forests, ascents to mountains from which you can see the seashore and Africa. From SierraySol we organize excursions and visits along these trails.
But we always recommend spending time visiting the white villages with a Moorish origin and enjoy gastronomy and wines.
Our local partner John Carlos from “Explora la Tierra” (https://explorelatierra.com/en/) will help you to discover this other hidden gem of the area. From the beautiful town Vejer de la Frontera, where “Explora la Tierra” is located, they organize culinary tours throughout Cadiz province. In these private guided tours, you will learn about local traditions and about the culinary, medicinal, and gastronomical use of the Mediterranean plants.
Cadiz province is also one of the most known international wine areas of the world, famous for the sherry wine, but with a less known variety of different wines. Don’t miss the opportunity to do private sherry and Andalusian wine tastings in Cadiz as well as a private virtual sherry tasting from home. Join a culinary and cultural tour while visiting the famous white towns of Cadiz, is the way to experience a real immersion in the territory.
Other activities that you only can do in this province is discovering the traditional bluefin tuna fishing method, called “la almadraba”.
Definitely, Cadiz is one of those places where you can find everything, the mountains, the sea, the traditional villages, the best food, and the most delicious wines. Local companies are your best leaders to enjoy your holidays.
