Starting and finishing point: Mirador de San Nicolas, Callejón Atarazana 4, Granada (see the map)
The “Mirador de San Nicolas” is our starting point. From here we can contemplate the Alhambra hill and behind it, the Natural and National Park of Sierra Nevada. The Darro valley separates the Alhambra and Albaicín hills. The valley is full of history and heritage and this tour allows us discover it. We’ll walk along the cobbled streets of the Albaicín and explore the Sacromonte, whose name comes from the seventeenth-century abbey. From the Sacromonte we’ll have exceptional views of the Alhambra, Generalife and its whole hill crossed by irrigation canals. We‘ll go through all of the Sacromonte to the river. A hiking trip to discover different kinds of vegetation: Mediterranean and riverbank forests, olive trees, and of course, the golden poplar plantations in whose fallen leaves we can probably find different types of mushrooms in autumn. We will be able to decide to finish at the traditional village of Huétor Santillán, or cross the river and walk up to the Llano de la Perdiz, walking back along the Alhambra hill.
