Guided hiking trip in Sierra Castril

TRIP DESCRIPTION

A long weekend walking trip to the beautiful Natural Park of the Sierra Castril . We will get to see the most famous sights in the natural park such as the source of the river Castril, the Osa gully, the Osa cave and the Magdalena gorge. We will reach the top of Buitre peak where we get a 360° view over the area. Different paths will lead us through an unspoilt landscape where the rocks and river channels look amazing.

On the last day of our trekking trip we will visit two important archaeological sites in Eastern Andalucia: the settlement of Castellon Alto and the Iberian necropolis of Tutugi.

  • Day 1

    We leave Granada at 5:00 pm.
    We arrive around 7:00 pm.
    Then we will do an easy walk along the river gully of Castril, which is also known as: Las Pasarelas.
    At only 2 km it is a short track but a very spectacular one.

  • Day 2

    Breakfast at 8:00 am and the start of our hike will be around 8:45 am

    The Magdalena gorge

    It is an easy walk which allows us to admire important waterfalls in the natural park.
    Route characteristics:

    • Route type: one way, finishing point will be the Pino Hermoso bridge
    • Routh length: 3 km 300m one way
    • Time: 1 h 10 min one way

     

  • Day 3

    Breakfast at 8:15 am and we will start around 9:00 am

    Ascent to peak Buitre

    We will ascend to one of the highest mountains in the natural park: peak Buitre (2,020m). It is a medium-level hike. The footpaths are good and the track is well marked.
    During the trip we will get to see high mountain pine forests.
    From the summit we will be able to enjoy different magnificent ranges such as the Sierra Cabrilla, the Sierra Sagra and the Sierra Nevada.

  • Day 4

    Archaeological heritage of Galera

    We will leave our accommodation and visit two impressive famous archaeological sites:

    • the settlement of Castellon Alto with a museum
    • the Iberian necropolis of Tutugi

    At the end of our trip we will eat a delicious dish called: “El cordero a la lata” (tray-baked lamb). It is a typical dish from the area.  (the price of the lunch is not included in the package)

  • Recommended equipment

    • Sunglasses, sun cream and protective lip balm. Hat or winter hat and gloves.
    • Hiking footwear; boots or shoes with ankle protection.
    • Technical mountain clothing, short- sleeved and long-sleeved t-shirts made of breathable fabric (not cotton) and a fleece or warm layer. Hiking trousers and jacket made of Gore-Tex or a similar fabric to act as a wind stopper.
    • Personal snack food such as dried fruit and nuts, energy bars etc.
    • 1.5 litre water bottle or camelbak, with drinking tube if possible.
    • Hiking poles.
    • Camera, mobile phone and other electronic devices and their chargers.
    • Small first aid kit and any personal medication.
    • Notebook and pencil (optional).
    • Knee bands, if necessary.
    • Personal documents, such as identity cards and  European health insurance cards.
  • Meals

    During the day we will eat in the countryside. Every participant needs to take snacks for the route.

We will leave our accommodation between 8:30 am and 9:00 am every day.

Guides and Safety

All our guides have the necessary training to ensure the complete safety of the group.

We will keep the group together and in contact by using walkie talkies. Our guides have all taken first aid courses.

According to our Terms and Conditions document, the guides can change any itinerary in case of bad weather or any other circumstances which could affect the safety of the group, without any refunds being given.

Medical considerations

We ask that our hikers inform us of the existence of any chronic or cardiovascular illness which could interfere with hiking activities. To this end, we will send out a form which must be completed. The personal information which is given is covered by our data protection policy and will not be used for anything other than to provide us with the information necessary for this activity to be carried out well.

For the same reason we need to know about any allergies.

A good level of physical fitness is required and previous experience of routes of a similar difficulty, length and accumulated height difference. The pace that we will follow is not a sporting one but a pace which will allow interpretation and interaction, however, experience or regular hiking is essential.

Price:

Our prices are estimated taking into account the number of participants registered on the deadline of the inscription. The deposit into the account is made in order to reserve the vacancy and also to know, in advance, the number of participants that will be realizing the activity. In case the activity is cancelled, the deposit would be returned. On the other hand, if the activity is successfully organized, a second pay would be realized with the final amount.

Cancellation and refund policy

In case of cancellation, the following policy applies.

  • More than 25 days prior to the starting date of the trip, we will grant you a full refund minus a €50 administrative fee per reservation.
  • Between 24 days and 10 days prior to the starting date of the trip, we will retain 50% of the trip cost.
  • Less than 10 days prior to the starting date of the trip, or once the trip has begun, there will be no refund.
