The trip:
We will drive from Granada to Gorafe. It will take approx. 1 hour to get there. Our first stop will be the Megalithism Interpretation Centre in Gorafe. Our local guide will explain the origin and development of the communities which built more than 240 dolmens in this area. Gorafe is one of the the regions with the highest concentration of funerary monuments in Spain and Europe.
The megalithic tombs (dolmens) in Gorafe area are surrounded by a very special semi-desert landscape which is also known as “badlands”. We will leave the village and start our first walk among the dolmens “la Hoya del Conquín” (1,5 km and 57 m height difference). Our second hike will be in the area called “Las Majadillas” (4 km and 120 m height difference).
We will have our picnic close to the edge of a hill. It is a perfect spot which will allow us to admire the unspoilt and beautiful scenery.
On the third part of our hiking trip we will discover another geological phenomenon: the irrigation canal of Alicun/Toril. This is an incredible structure which built itself up to a height of 15 m. This irrigation canal has been used by the local community for thousands of years (2,8 km and 150 m height difference).
