Hiking in Lanjarón: along old irrigation channels

Autumn Trips

The trip:
We’ll leave Lanjarón and take the path to Tello, which starts next to the shrine and the fountain. This is a historical trail that goes up towards the mountains.
The trail ascends tirelessly, through shrubs and copses revealing better and better views. We’ll enter a chestnut forest were many chestnut trees were burned in an unfortunate fire. Their silhouettes are a macabre show, but even these trees are part of the beauty of the landscape. Remains of the ancient crops and farms, the sound of water and the colour of the chestnut tree will make the trail very pleasant. Several irrigation canals have their intakes in this valley too.
We’ll leave the path to Tello to go down, cross the river and climb up again until we find the old irrgation channel of Montalban. Then, we’ll walk along the channel until a section that’s impassable where we’ll take a track that takes us back to Lanjarón.
