TRIP DESCRIPTION

Vereda de la Estrella (path of the stars) is a classic hiking route in the Sierra Nevada. It is a circular trip where we will enter the slope of Dehesa de San Juan (high mountain pasture). The trip takes place in an area full of history and heritage.

The trip:
We will start our trip at 8:50 am at the starting point of La Vereda de la Estrella in Güéjar Sierra, Granada. It is a beautiful trip in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park. It is a path through a valley located at the base of the highest peaks of the Sierra: Mulhacén and Alcazaba. To get to see more of the great surroundings we will extend the classic La Vereda de la Estrella.
First we will walk up the hillside of Dehesa de San Juan. We will follow a traditional path to ascend to the pasture located close to the headwaters of the rivers Guarnón and San Juan. During our trip we will see historical places, traces of shepherds, farmers, miners, old farmhouses, irrigation channels and reservoirs. Landmarks of the area are the houses of la Hortichuela, los Hoyos farm and the houses of el Hornillo.
We will have a break and afterwards we will continue the hike. From the houses of el Hornillo we will walk down to the Probadora mines.

Equipment recommended:
On our way there isn’t any potable water. We recommend carrying 2l of water. In autumn, the weather can be very changeable. It is necessary to take several kinds of clothes including a warm coat and a raincoat. We highly recommend hiking sticks. The walking paths are in good condition, but if it has rained, it can be muddy. We recommend wearing hiking boots and not sandals. Sunglasses, sun cream, protective lip cream, a hat, gloves and appropriate clothing for the season and the weather forecast.

Logistics:
Participants should take nuts, dried fruits, and sandwiches for our picnic in the countryside.

Price of “custom date”: €60/pp. 2 people minimum. It includes the guided trip, insurance and transportation.

Purchasing Conditions:  Excursions must be booked and paid for at least three days in advance.  Participants must arrive at the meeting point on time. The group will wait for participants for five minutes but then leave.  In this situation, no money will be reimbursed.  All participants should ensure that they know how to get to the meeting point and if you have any questions or doubts, please do not hesitate to contact us.
