The pioneers hike. The Víboras mountain pass – Campos de Otero spot.
We will leave from Granada taking the A92 main road towards Murcia. The hiking route itself starts in the old rural farmhouse called Narváez, where the Natural Park Visitor’s Center is located. The route is mainly situated along pine forests. We will follow small forest paths together with different sections of forest trails. Furthermore, part of the planned route goes along the GR7 long-distance path.
The first ascend, which is quite steep at times, crosses a pine forest, where we can see some isolated examples of holm oaks. We will have a first break when we reach the Canaleja Alta Recreational Area. We will continue along a zigzagging path, crossing a beautiful pine forest, going across the Collado del Toro viewpoint and climbing some slopes from the las Riscas Gully to the Prados del Rey (King’s meadows).
The land gets flatter as we reach the Prados del Rey. From this point, we can observe the vegetation and the large damp high mountain meadows dotted with enormous hundred-year- old pine trees. From this flat area, we can see the “calar”, the name of the limestone rock hills. We will propose to the participants to get closer to the Pozos de Nieves or to go up the Calar de Santa Bárbara. After the picnic, we will return to the Canaleja Alta Recreational Area and we will close the circle following an easy forest track.
