Spring Hiking in Granada
Spring Hiking in Granada
May 21 – May 25 all-day
Spring Hiking in Granada @ Granada | Andalusia | Spain
La Alpujarra (Granada) is a magical region found on the southern slopes of Sierra Nevada range. Its white villages are literally perched on the mountain. The landscape is a wonderful blend of natural vegetation and fruit trees growing on hand made terraces built centuries ago. Walking old footpaths and staircases carved into the rock transports us to different points to behold the terrific scenery from a bird’s eye view. In spring, the snowmelt flows through fountains, streams and waterfalls, creating an inviting landscape bursting with flowers for us to roam.   Arrival day. 21st of May Pick up in Málaga Airport and transfer to Granada. Accommodation in a *** hotel. Guided tapas route with our local expert. A well-earned rest before beginning our adventure full of energy tomorrow. First hiking day. 22nd of May After breakfast, our bus will take us to Trevélez, the highest village in Spain. The organization of the village, in three neighborhoods, reflects the spanish-Muslim structure. We will visit the most important ham curing Factory in the Alpujarra. After tasting some ham we will be ready to start our hike, firstly heading to Bérchules and finally arriving at Mecina Fondales, where we have our hotel reservations. We will have a picnic during the hike. You will be free to choose where you have dinner Second hiking day. 23rd of May After breakfast we will set off on a hike, walking along paths built into the side of the mountains, some of which were carved out of the rock a thousand years ago. These paths allow us to go through the deep gorge of the Trevélez river. The hike will take us through small villages, which are the best examples of the traditional architecture of the Alpujarra, such as Ferreirola, Atalbéitar y Bérchules. We will have our picnic during the hike. A bus will take us to the nearby Poqueira valley. We will stay in the village of Capileira which boasts a wide variety of restaurants and bars in which we can have dinner. Third hiking day. 24th of May After breakfast we will begin a hike which will firstly take us to the old settlement of La Cebadilla. We will climb up, crossing several rivers that flow down the slopes of Mulhacén until we arrive at the Cortijo de Las Tomas, whose name indicates that we are at the starting point of the irrigation channels which carry the snowmelt from here to the villages. After having our picnic we will start the return leg with stunning views of the high snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada. We will walk along the irrigation channels returning to Capileira, where we will sleep for a second night with time to have dinner in the village. Fourth hiking day. 25th of May After breakfast we will set off on a short hike crossing the river Poqueira in order to arrive on foot in Pampaneira. This village is full of shops, artisan factories and workshops making chocolate, rugs, cured meats and a visitor interpretation centre about the Sierra Nevada and the Alpujarra. In short, the ideal place to buy a souvenir or to lose yourself in its streets listening to the sound of running water. Depending on flight times, we will leave the Alpujarra and head to Málaga Airport. See more information in Long weekend trips. Long weekend25thMay_Flyer
