The trip:
We’ll walk around the streets of Alboloduy – the name of this town reminisces about its Arab past. Steep narrow streets lead us to a viewpoint from where the trail “Rambla de los Yesos – Cordel of the Solana” starts. The path runs parallel to Nacimiento River. We’ll pass through orchards with different trees, such as olives, pomegranates, or orange tress, and later we’ll walk through a mountainous area with pine trees and bushes.
A brief descent will allow us to enter the watercourse – a dry riverbed except in times of heavy rainfall. The landscape is quite different from anything we know in Sierra Nevada. The modelling of this desert area around Alboloduy has generated high pink gorges topped by stones.
We’ll take a traditional path that follows the watershed of the hill to return to Alboloduy. A perfect look out with spectacular views of Sierra de Alhamilla, Gador, Monterrrey and, in the background, Cabo de Gata. Small villages dot a landscape of dilapidated aspect or “bad lands” as they are often called in the geological literature.
After the descent we’ll have a little break in the town to eat something and then we’ll approach the village of Terque to visit the museum of the uva de embarque – “shipment grape” – , a unique product of this region who crossed borders and continents.
